Sidequest is a Codex course that runs inside its own repository. The learner opens the project folder in Codex and asks it to start Sidequest. Codex then launches a companion app, coaches one mission at a time, and edits the real repository when a lesson calls for it, so the app doing the teaching becomes the learner’s first Codex project.
The course asks the learner to practise the working loop rather than take a tour: inspect, decide, change, verify, and leave evidence behind.
What it contains
- 26 missions, from a first-contact task to a Final Flight capstone;
- a Prompt Clinic for turning vague requests into instructions with a clear intent, constraints, and evidence;
- Browser Proof exercises that check a page’s journey, layout, keyboard use, and console;
- Safe Automations exercises, where a proposed scheduled task is classified by risk and dry-run before approval;
- a mission that packages the workflow as a reusable skill;
- a Flight Recorder that keeps a local record of what changed and what still needs verification;
- a runthrough page and an offline Judge Mode that walk through the course with clearly labelled sample data.
Progress is stored locally. The core course needs no account, API key, or API billing.
Boundaries
The course separates practice from proof. A ticked checkbox is a practice receipt, not mastery; verification in the Codex workspace is a separate gate. The Final Flight credential is a non-accredited local practice record. The course is an educational project, not a claim that every capability shown is available in every account or environment.
Local archive status
Storage update · 10 October 2026. The local Sidequest experiment is in cold storage. Its repository, index and 141 unstaged tracked changes are preserved in a private archive with checksums and tested restoration. This archival pass does not retire or change the separately hosted Sidequest demo. Learner state and private configuration are not published here.
Archival verification receipt.
