This record covers the first week of building this site, in May 2026. The site is no longer built this way: the room described here was retired in September 2026, and the site is now a plain notebook of writing and Agent records with no room, stations or hotspots.
At the time, the site was planned as an illustrated 2.5D room. Seven stations (Captain’s Log, Build Bay, Comms Desk, Archive Wall, Map Console, Pet Bay and Workbench) sat in the scene, and each opened a panel of writing, builds, lessons or tools. It was built with Next.js App Router, TypeScript and MDX.
The first prototype was meant to settle practical questions before any art polish:
- whether each station could be a real page address rather than a state inside a scene;
- whether the room could zoom to a station without breaking the browser’s Back button;
- whether phone users could reach every station without precise hotspot tapping;
- whether everything stayed readable with reduced motion.
By May 19, 2026, the prototype had passed checks for each of these: hotspots were real links; Back, Escape and browser Back returned to the room overview; phones got a station list; and reduced-motion settings were respected. Work then moved on to filling the stations with real content.
In August 2026 the main site moved to Astro and the room moved to a separate deployment. That deployment was retired in September 2026. Screenshots and route notes from the room are kept in the site’s migration records. One idea carried forward: every piece of content should be reachable as an ordinary page, without going through a visual scene.
