Codex Lab is a free introduction to Codex for people who are comfortable with chat but new to working with files and tools.

The learner opens the lab’s folder in the Codex app and brings a travel idea. Over about 15 minutes and six guided steps, Codex turns it into a small personal trip planner that the learner can open and keep changing. Along the way the learner meets the main controls, sends three helper agents to work from one shared brief, and answers three design questions before Codex builds and checks the page.

What it is for

The first lesson is the working loop rather than a tour of every panel: inspect what is there, state an intention, make a bounded change, and look at the result. The project folder is the centre of the lesson because that is where the work becomes visible. The learner’s files stay in a local output folder inside the lab.

Current boundary

Controls vary by account and environment, so the lab checks what is available and skips unavailable features, such as dictation or image generation, without blocking the lesson. Publishing the result is optional, offered only at the end, and always includes a privacy review.

Archive status

Storage update · 10 October 2026. Codex Lab is retired. Its source, Git history, index and unpublished working changes are preserved in a private archive with checksums and tested restoration. The captured introduction above remains the public project evidence; learner outputs and private configuration are not published here.
